Which coverage are you buying?

Two questions decide which application link is the right one: where the person is travelling, and whether they have pre-existing medical conditions. Get those two right and the rest of the application is straightforward.

🇨🇦

Visiting Canada

Parents, grandparents and other visitors — including Super Visa applicants who need $100,000 minimum coverage for one year.

✈️

Leaving Canada

Canadians and residents travelling abroad: single trips, snowbird winters, or annual multi-trip plans.

💊

Pre-existing conditions

A managed condition usually can be covered if it has been stable for the period the policy requires — pick the matching plan, don't guess.

Secure application portals

The first option quotes and applies right here on our site; the rest are live insurer portals that open in a new window. Either way the application and payment happen on the insurer's own secure page — choose the option matching your situation, and if you are not sure which applies, ask us first rather than guessing on the medical questions.

Not sure which of these applies to you? The app asks two questions and takes you straight to the one plan that matches — no reading the list below.

Answer the medical questions carefully. An inaccurate answer is the most common reason a large claim is denied. If anything is uncertain — a recent medication change, a pending test, a condition that was stable until last month — talk to us before you buy. It costs nothing, and the premium is exactly the same.

Applications open on the insurer's secure site in a new window. Clicks are measured so we know which options people use; your answers, medical details and payment information are never sent to analytics.

Two ways to get covered

Buy it yourself, or have it compared for you

Both routes cost you the same premium. Buying through a licensed advisor is not more expensive — insurers set the rate, so the only difference is how much help you want.

Before you pay

Five things worth checking on the last screen

  • Coverage amount. Super Visa requires at least $100,000 in emergency medical coverage from a Canadian insurer, valid for one year from entry.
  • Effective date. Coverage should start on the day of arrival or departure, not the day you buy — and cannot be backdated once travel has begun.
  • Stability period. Commonly 90, 180 or 365 days. This is where two similarly priced plans differ most.
  • Deductible. Raising it is the most reliable way to lower the premium without losing protection.
  • Names and dates of birth. They must match the passport exactly, or the policy can be challenged at claim time.

Bought the wrong thing? Most policies can be cancelled for a full refund before the effective date, and Super Visa policies are often refundable pro-rata if the visa is refused — see our guide to Super Visa premium refunds.

Buying online — common questions

Can I buy Super Visa insurance online?

Yes. Apply through the visitor-to-Canada links above and you'll normally receive confirmation of insurance by email within minutes. Make sure the policy meets IRCC's requirements: at least $100,000 in emergency medical coverage from a Canadian insurer, valid for one year from the date of entry.

Is it cheaper to buy direct instead of through an advisor?

No. The insurer sets the premium, so the price is identical either way. The difference is whether someone helps you compare the wording — and whether you have someone to call at claim time.

How fast do I get the documents?

Confirmation of insurance and the full policy wording are normally emailed immediately after payment. If nothing arrives within a few minutes, check your junk folder before reapplying — duplicate policies are a nuisance to unwind.

Should I buy online with pre-existing conditions?

You can, but a phone call first is worth the ten minutes. Stability definitions vary by insurer, and an inaccurate answer is the most common reason a large claim is denied. The premium does not change if we help you.

Can I pay monthly?

Some plans offer monthly installments instead of one up-front premium. Availability depends on the insurer, the plan and the length of coverage, and is shown during the application.

Is the payment secure?

Yes. The application and payment take place on the insurer's own secure portal, not on this website. Cover & Protect never sees or stores your card details.

What if I need to change the dates later?

Most insurers allow date changes before coverage begins, and many allow an extension mid-trip if you have not had a claim. Ask before you leave — extending after a medical event is usually not possible.

How quickly do I get my policy documents?

Online applications normally issue confirmation of insurance and full policy documents by email immediately after payment. Check your junk folder if the email has not arrived within a few minutes.

Not sure which one to buy?

Send the details and we'll tell you which plan actually fits — before you pay. No cost, no obligation, and the premium is the same either way.
